The Marriage Supper of the Lamb: What will it look like?
By Troy Frugé
Strange, isn't it? As a Christian, one of your greatest anticipations is the marriage supper of the Lamb, and yet so few of us know exactly what that will entail. True, there have been a lot of well-meaning speculations as to what it will look like; but few, if any really have much of a Scriptural notion as to what happens there.
Often times, when anyone tries to ply a "prophecy expert" for more details concerning this event, they often get the much misquoted "...no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him", lifted from it's context in 1 Cor. 2:9. I say "misquoted" and "lifted" because had they quoted the entire contextual passages, they would have read...
"1Co 2:7-10
(7) But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.
(8) None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
(9) But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him"--
(10) these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God."
And so the truth is, while those in and of the World are kept in the dark regarding those things God has promised to his own; we have not been! This was precisely Paul's point say "...we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God". Who is it a hidden secret to? The Lost!
True, there are some things which God in his wisdom chooses to keep secret from us (Deut. 29:29), but this is not one of them. So let's look at what we can know, and compare it to what we think we know, shall we?
Most Christians are unaware of the fact that while this event is certainly alluded to in several places, the "marriage supper of the Lamb" is only mentioned in one place of the entire Bible; that is Revelations 19:9, which reads...
"And the angel said to me, 'Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.' And he said to me, 'These are the true words of God.'"
This is important for many reasons, primarily because of the CONTEXT in which it is mentioned.
One - It is found in the one book of the Bible which itself admits it is a book of signs and figurative language (Rev. 1:1). Now this does not mean that it is any less the inspired Word of God, and that the truths it teaches are any less relevant.
The word "signified" as used in Vs 1 comes from the Greek. word "semaino", from which we derive our English word "similitude"; i.e. - a type, model, figure, illustration, etc. which is not the actual thing it represents. This is part & parcel of "apocalyptic" (hidden) language. A good example of this in found in Jn. 6:32-33, where Jesus speaks of his own crucifixion in figurative terms.
Two - It is an event which occurs AFTER the appearance of Christ and his judgment of the Great Whore and her followers, at which point his omnipotence is praised. (vs.-6)
Three - The Bride of the Lamb (the Church) which is comprised of ALL God's people throughout time will be present, and arrayed in white, after having come out of the most horrendously bloody part of her history. (vs.-8)
It is at this point the marriage supper is said to commence.

But what follows surprises many: Do you know what will be served at this feast? Read on from verses 11 through 21 and you will see.
Truly here is the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise not only to King David, but of they of like faith when he said...
Truly here is the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise not only to King David, but of they of like faith when he said...
"You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies..." (Psa 23:5)
And again we see the fulfillment of Psalm 149 where God's promise is that we should not only witness, but participate in God's judgment upon the faithless nations who have always made war with Christ and his Saints. And as it was ever Christ's "food" to do the will of the Father (Jn. 4:34), so too shall it be our food to do His will in fulfillment of Enoch's prophecy...
"...Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him." (Jud 1:15)
What is it that God's true people hunger & thirst for? Righteousness, according to Matt. 5:6, and not only do his saints have that in their personal lives now, but they shall know it in a hereafter where no unrighteous person can dwell. That will be the ultimate fulfillment of what all true saints crave - righteousness, peace, and a sin-free world within which to live for all eternity. They've craved justice for thousands of years, and yet have been told repeatedly not to seek it for themselves in this life, but rather to wait upon a time yet appointed when their God would avenge them. (Deut. 32:35, 43; Psa. 94:1-3; Na. 1:2,3; Rom. 12:19; He. 10:30)
This then will be the time of God's answer to all those saints who for countless ages have cried out - "...O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" (Rev 6:10)
No my precious saints, this feast will be a feast of judgment upon the the world, the flesh, and the devil; and while it may offend the squeamish, it will yet be glorious.
I don't suppose that unless you are one of the many Christians who are being daily martyred for their faith in those "Third World" nations the media loves to ignore, that you'd have the following passages listed in your "Jesus Person Pocket Promise Book"!
"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day." (2Th 1:7-10)
No, I'm afraid those weaned on pop-Christianity blanch when they see those kinds of words. Never-the-less, despite all of their protestations that such words are "uncharitable", and offensive, and hardly apt to "win souls"; they are one of many like promises the Father has made to his children who suffer for his name. And the Apostle Paul assures us that, contrary to popular opinion - This is a "righteous thing".
"Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you..." (2Th 1:6)
I suppose that if you are like me, you are doing some serious re-examination of your previous assumptions about this event - and that's good.
It's past the time where we who are Christ's really need to know what we believe and why. We can no longer afford to "take it on faith" that what we've heard or read is necessarily true, no matter how popular the source. We all need to be like those noble Bereans by examining the Scriptures to ensure that what we've been taught is actually true. (Acts 17:11)
Given what we've learned from Scripture: I think this picture actually better depicts what the "marriage supper of the Lamb" will look like than the previous one, don't you?
